A Touristy Day in San Francisco with Kids
A couple months ago, we escaped the intense heatwave hitting Sacramento and headed to San Francisco for a touristy day at Pier 39. I grew up going to the Pier and Fisherman’s Wharf all the time. In fact, when I thought about going to San Francisco, I thought about the Pier and Union Square.
While these days we like to head out to the Sunset and Golden Gate Park, we decided to do the tourist thing and take our kids to the Aquarium of the Bay, a place I’d never visited despite my sister working there for a couple of years and all the aforementioned visits to the Pier.
We parked in the structure closest to Pier 39 and walked over to Beacon Coffee for some local caffeine. I love walking around in cities, and the 15 minute walk was a perfect way to stretch our legs after two hours in the car.
After the Aquarium, we wandered around the Pier, got lunch at Boudin Bakery and enjoyed it outside.
Since the kids had napped, we decided to head out to Chrissy Field and the Presidio to walk down to the Wave Organ. It was a lovely walk and we were rewarded with the calmness of the organ plus a small beach where Izzy and I got to stick our toes in the soft sand and look for pretty shells.
After our long day, we loaded up the car and headed home over the Golden Gate Bridge.
It was a lovely, peaceful day. The kids handled being on the road so well. Can’t wait for next time.
