Spring 10x10 Day 7
[Moss green turtleneck sweater (old) similar, similar color in cotton / Black distressed high waist skinny jeans, similar for less, similar from Madewell on sale (and going fast) / high top sneakers]
OVERVIEW
I’d tried to style this turtleneck sweater with my high top converse early on in the challenge and hated the way it turned out. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that this sweater could work with high top sneakers, so I gave the styling another try.
I actually love how this outfit turned out! Keep reading for all the details.
WEATHER
It rained so much more during this challenge than I planned for, but that’s ok! It gave me a chance to find cool ways to make my pieces work. I love wearing turtlenecks on gloomy days because they feel instantly cozy so it’s no surprise that I grabbed this sweater for the rainy day.
WHAT I DID
I stuck to my usual routine of freelance projects at a coffee shop before work. After work, Brandon helped some friends move a dresser to their new place (my contribution was folding the seats down in the car). When we finished, both of us realized we’d spent all day working and were too hungry to think about cooking, so we treated ourselves to an impromptu dinner out. We sat at the bar and devoured our burgers before going home and decompressing from the busy day.
STYLING DETAILS
I didn’t do this on purpose, but looking at the photos I can see why I ended up liking this version of the outfit better than my first attempt. The styling of this outfit involves high things. A half top knot, a high neckline, high rise denim and high top sneakers. This overarching theme keeps my eyes drawing upward and evens out the proportions. In my original try, I think I felt short in the mid-rise jeans and flat sneakers, so having the tiny heel in the ankle boots helped elongate my legs. In this case, the rise of the jean is lengthening my legs so I can get away with a flat shoe.
I hope you find proportions as fascinating as I do.
How do you play with proportion? Do you try to elongate yourself like I do? What are your tricks?
