Spring 10x10 Challenge
I’m super excited for today’s blog post because I’m sharing what I’ll be wearing during the Spring 10x10 challenge hosted by Lee from Style Bee and Caroline from Unfancy.
This is my first time doing the 10x10 challenge and I’m excited to see how I end up styling my pieces.
You’re probably wondering what the heck the 10x10 challenge is, aren’t you?
It is what it sounds like it is. It’s a 10 day challenge where you style your outfits using 10 pieces.
Bags, accessories, gym clothes and loungewear don’t count, but pants, jeans, tops, dresses, jackets, and shoes do.
There’s no need to buy anything and you don’t even need a capsule wardrobe to participate! The challenge officially kicks off tomorrow, April 7.
In fact, this might be the perfect challenge if you’re considering starting a capsule wardrobe. It gives you a chance to practice the planning process without the pressure of picking for a whole season.

HOW TO PICK YOUR 10 PIECES
1. check the weather
It might be beautifully sunny right now, but the rain is headed back to Sacramento. The forecast for the next 10 days will be anywhere from low 60s to low 70s with rain and partly cloudy weather. Knowing the rain is on its way helped me decide which shoes to include and which to leave out.
As much as I love my desert boots, I don’t wear them when it rains (because I’ve been too lazy to give them a coat of protective spray). Instead, I opted for my high top Converse sneakers and good ol’ ankle boots that I don’t mind wearing in the rain.
2. check your schedule
I knew I’d be working during the challenge, so I made sure to include jeans I can wear to my job.
Other than that, I’ll be working from home and from coffee shops and dressing a little more casual.
3. let your gut pick some pieces
I went through my closet and let myself pick items I knew I’d be excited to wear over the next 10 days. I immediately reached for my new distressed high waisted black denim, my moss green turtleneck sweater, my striped mockneck tee, and my thrifted copper tee.
4. figure out a color palette & pick strategically
I didn’t write and plan out a color palette or anything, but I let a color palette evolve from the pieces I was drawn to. From my first round of picking, I knew black, green, and copper were represented.
The next step was to fill in the gaps while being super realistic about the weather. I added my thrifted v neck sweater because it’s easy to layer over my other pieces, plus it’ll give me a brighter shade of green for the gloomy days. Then I added some light wash Levi’s and my new-to-me striped dress to brighten everything up.
And that's it! The entire process took me between 10 and 15 minutes.. I’m so excited to see what this challenge teaches me! Let me know if you plan on joining the fun. I'll be posting over on instagram if you want to follow along!
