Spring 10x10 Day 1
Hey guys! I’m so excited to participate in the Spring 10x10 challenge that Lee and Caroline are hosting! I’ve watched the last few rounds from afar and finally decided to take the plunge!
I mentioned in last week’s video that I’ve been feeling a bit stuck in a style rut, so I’m hoping this challenge will help me find new ways to style my outfits.
You can see the 10 pieces I’m wearing for this challenge here.
Ok, let’s look at my outfit for Day 1!
[ v neck sweater (thrifted) similar, similar / Madewell distressed high rise skinnies (similar for less) / Lucky leather ankle boots / faux leather jacket (old) similar, similar / circle scarf (old from World Market) similar, similar / Fossil Sydney satchel bag (old) this year's version ]
OVERVIEW
I like this look! The distressed jeans are a new addition to my closet (they’re replacing my other high rise black denim) and I’m obsessed. I think the green sweater helps liven and soften the black denim and black “leather” jacket. I’m all for edgy outfits, but I prefer to keep things softer in spring. I put a lot more effort into my hair and makeup for Day 1. I’ve been wearing my hair either down or up lately, so the half top knot was a nice break from routine.
WEATHER
Talking about the weather always feels like a small talk cop-out, but in this case, it’s necessary. I check the weather every morning before I get dressed and it absolutely determines what I wear. Friday’s weather was rainy and a bit windy. I opted for the green sweater because of its oversized coziness.
WHAT I DID
I worked in the morning and spent my afternoon talking wayyyy too long answering the lovely questions you guys left me on Instagram last week. It was a pretty casual day. Brandon finally had a free Friday (he’s usually playing gigs) so we had an impromptu date at our favorite Thai place that just so happens to be right down the street from our apartment.
STYLING DETAILS
I played it safe and wore my new-to-me sweater with my high rise black skinnies. I went for a full tuck of the sweater instead of my usual half-tuck or front knot. I wasn’t sure how this oversized sweater would look tucked in – certain sweaters can make your jeans look weirdly bunchy, you know? Luckily, I couldn’t see much bunchiness, if any. I think the black denim helped me out there! I wanted to make the outfit a little dressier so I wore my fail-safe ankle boots.
I’ve had these boots since my very first capsule. I’ve worn them so much and they’ve held up like true champs! I struggled to find ankle boots that didn’t hit above my ankle. I’m short which means I have short legs and I never liked the way most ankle boots looked on me so finding these was an awesome score. They give me the look I want without cutting my legs off. Plus the leather has weathered really beautifully.
As for the rest of the outfit, I wore my jacket because of its hood and rain resistance. And because I know I’ll end up wearing a super similar outfit sometime during this challenge, I added on a scarf to complete the look. I barely reached for my scarves during winter, but I have a feeling I’ll be using them a lot more over the next couple of weeks.
Cool! That was Day 1’s outfit! I’ll see you back here tomorrow for Day 2. I'll be popping in on my Instagram story to share my outfit every day, too!
