summer bucket list: picnic in the park
I’m low key obsessed with picnics. I credit my college French professor for my love of them. They were a stand by of French Club and always involved my favorite things: bread, cheese, lemonade, fresh fruit, and hanging out outside. Sure enough, when I visited France with her and the club, our hosts gave us a very laid back picnic on the first day of summer. It’s one of my top three favorite memories and I swear I’m chasing the dreaminess of snacking under the Eiffel Tower every time I plan my own picnic stateside.
I shared my late but totally doable summer bucketlist recently and knew I had to share the photos from me and Izzy’s picnic in Capital Park in a dedicated post. My friend Sarah (whose work you’ve seen here and here) shot our picnic and made this somewhat elaborate but ordinary day look absolutely magical.✨
I made an effort to minimize the amount of plastic I used for this picnic without driving myself insane. I let things like the dips slide in plastic and used my own serving bowls to hold the fruit and bread and cheese. I think the mismatched containers ended up looking really beautiful!
These photos of my bandana in my hair are some of my favorites. At the risk of sounding like the girl who is effortless in all things, I legitimately didn’t know what my hair looked like. I’d forgotten a hair tie and we were in the middle of a heat wave, so I tied my hair back with the bandana for the 10+ block walk. Lo and behold, Sarah captured it in a way that makes me want to wear my hair in a loose low pony tail for the rest of my life!
Looking back on this picnic makes me want to plan another one! I just find them so romantic — the dappled light coming through the trees and lounging outside eating copious amounts of cheese and fruit.
We’re hoping to cross another item off the bucket list this weekend when we catch the California State Fair on its last day! Brandon and I have never been before so I’m looking forward to embracing my best Sacramento life with a wine slushie and some deep fried food (and maybe the Ferris wheel, if they let kiddos on them)!
Huge shout out to my pal Sarah Akiyama for being 1000 times better at photography than I could ever dream of being. Give her a follow on instagram and check out her print shop for gorgeous photos.
